Midweek Mani: Red Mountain Flowers

Bit of a random one, this: the base is OPI Alpine Snow with polka dots and vaguely floral geometric detail drawn with a red nail art pen, which Himself says looks like red mountain flowers (eh?!) all topped off with Seche Viche. I did this on Friday evening and have had just one major chip since, even though I spent most of Saturday gardening. Not too shabby.

White nail polish bring out my inner Goldilocks: most brands make theirs too sheer, too thick, or too streaky, and it seems to be a very difficult colour to get just right. Alpine Snow is the closest to just right that I've come across to date, and with a little care during application is even and opaque in two coats.

By the way, if you've had the misfortune to buy a crappy white polish, don't chuck it. A base coat of white - even if it's not perfectly applied - under neons and pastels will make them pop and help prevent them from looking streaky.

PS - Here's part of what my gardening on Saturday achieved. Not quite as fancy as my inspiration images, I know, but I'm just impressed that everything you see here is still alive!

  3. Seriously adorable, and great that it lasted till now :-)
That's a good tip (using white as a base) I picked up a Barry M peach melba the other day, i love the colour but its streaks like a biatch.
Nice work on the gardening. Normally when i plant anything it's dead in a wk. But i've been lucky this yr, pot plants outside and a basil plant inside, result! X

Sabrina - congrats on the plant survival, isn't it so lovely when they don't croak?! I am still surprised when I look out in the mornings and mine are ok.

  6. OMG Lynnie - amazing news. Wish Himself the best of luck with them. He was taking the whole thing so seriously I was almost expecting little passport pics with names of all the "lads in the tank" as and when they arrived! heheh X

ps - tell him to watch out when he introduces new fish to the tank as they have a tendency to eat each other - another reason why a dog is a much better pet idea!

Le Smurf - lol! Wouldn't have surprised me, he's only one step shy of looking for their long form birth certs ;) We put three new fish in yesterday and have been on high alert for signs of cannibalism since!
