Talontastic Thursday: French Me, Baby!

Thursday, October 14, 2010   |   5 comments

I'm not really a French manicure type, as regular readers will probably have gathered. However, both my thumbnails came a cropper the other day, torn off right down to the quick.

Yes. "Owie" is right.

So, to protect the incredibly tender skin that should be covered by the nail tips, I pulled out a couple of thumb-sized falsies and whacked them on. And since I was then already 20% of the way to a French mani and have a rake of pale pink polishes hanging around the place, I decided to just go with it.

What you see here is three coats of Essie Fiji in all its streaky, globby glory as I tried to ape the pink of the false nail; I used Essence Tip Painter for the white tips before topping the lot off with Seche Vite.

Are you a French mani fan yourself, or would you rather have solid colours on your nails?

Wow. How on earth do you get those tips so neat? I'm well impressed. I'm a bridesmaid on Saturday (yes, yes, oldest one EVER), and I was tempted by gel nails, but they destroyed mine before so I'm going to give this a go. Wish me luck! x

English Mum - good luck, let me know how you get on! The Essence Tip Painter that I used has a small brush so tis very easy to work precisely with, worth the €1.99 if you can get your hands on it. Working at a table with one hand flat, palm down, with fingers spread out, while you rest the forearm/wrist of the hand you're painting with on the table helps too, I think x

Oh your poor thumbs :( Why oh why can't they make polish that doesn't streak, it's such a pain!
