Talon-tastic Thursday: Paddy's Day nails

Thursday, March 11, 2010   |   7 comments

Not long to go now until St. Patrick's Day.

Or St. Patty's Day, as our Stateside friends insist on calling it, which sets my teeth right on edge and is one of the top reasons I don't ever want to spend the 17th of March in the US.

Since green is not exactly one of my top nail varnish colours - way too easy to look like you've just finished a good root around in your nostrils or have a particularly nasty nail bed infection, I reckon, regardless of what Chanel say - there are only three greens in my collection.

M&S 'Mint' - another of *those* pastel minis - would be bang on trend and is vay nice and ice-cream-y in its own right:

... but for a more definite green methinks I'll be going with Barry M 'Mint Green' on the day itself.

Their 'Spring Green', meanwhile, does nothing for my colouring and I find it's an absolute bee-atch for staining, even with a base coat.

Begorrah.

What lovely nail varnish or other beauty bits are you wearing today or planning to sport on Lá Fhéile Pádraig?

Oh I like that, defo getting some for Wednesday (the mint one).

How do you get around the base so even?

    Cheeky

Cheeky, it's mostly just practise I think :)

It helps if you don't overload the brush, so you could try -

    * wriggling the stem of the brush against the inner neck of the bottle in a circular motion as you're taking it out to get rid of any excess there
    * then gently wiping both sides of the brush against the inner neck of the bottle.

You really want to just leave a bead of nail varnish on the tip of the brush.

Then position your brush at the centre of the base of the nail, slightly away from the cuticle, and when you begin applying the nail varnish just gently push the brush and you should get an even base line.

Hope that helps (and makes sense!) :)

Aphrodite - it's already started, I read two American blogs today that referred to it thusly. Effing ridiculous.

I *may* have let out a little shriek each time I read it.

Great colours, not what I would normally wear but, but as we are having an Irish breakfast and Guinness first thing in the morning, with some newly immigrated (to New Zealand) Irish friends, this is a shade I'm happy to wear.
Have your self a great St Patricks day.
